Frequently asked questions
What is ShellSelf?
ShellSelf is a terminal-style developer portfolio. You get a URL (e.g. shellself.com/yourname) where visitors can type commands to explore your projects, skills, and experience — like using a real shell.
Is it free?
Yes. The free tier includes an interactive terminal portfolio, your own shellself.com/username URL, a few themes, and up to 3 commands. Pro ($1.99/mo) adds more themes, unlimited commands, custom domain, and no ShellSelf branding.
How do I get shellself.com/username?
Sign up, then complete onboarding and choose a username. That username becomes your portfolio URL. Usernames are lowercase letters and numbers, 3–20 characters.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, with Pro. You can connect a custom domain (e.g. portfolio.yourname.com) to your ShellSelf page. See our pricing page and custom domain docs for setup.
What commands can visitors run?
You define custom commands in the editor (e.g. projects, about, skills). Visitors type them in the terminal to see your content. Built-in commands like help and clear are also available.
How do I add projects?
From the Manage page, open the editor and add or edit commands and blocks. You can add project listings, links, and other content that appears when a command is run.
Do you support themes?
Yes. Free accounts get a few themes; Pro unlocks many more. You can switch themes anytime in the editor.
How do I delete my account?
Account and data deletion are handled according to our Privacy Policy. Contact us at hello@shellself.com for account deletion requests.
